Production and environmental effects of fertilization methods were compared for a permanent meadow on a peat-muck soil (formed by drainage of peat). The following mineral fertilization methods were used: PK (P-30, K-60 kg ha~(-1)), NPK at two levels:(N-60, P-30, K-60 kg ha~(-1)) and (N-90, P-30, K-90 kg ha~(-1)). Fertilization by manure and slurry was also used with two comparable levels. About 50 kg ha~(-1) of Mg was introduced annually with manure, causing more positive balances, and about 15 kg ha~(-1)of Mg was introduced annually with slurry, causing improvement of Mg balance in comparison with mineral fertilization. Fertilization with natural fertilizers increased the amount of Mg in the upper soil layers without increasing its concentration in ground water. Mg concentrations in water were determined by soil abundance.
