Malaysia is a fast-paced developing nation with relatively low computer-Internet penetration, and high mobile network growth. We designed DHearT, a mobile-based community that provides both the deaf and hearing communities a means to share knowledge, to foster relationships, to mingle, to chat, and to get-together on the mobile network. In order to elicit user requirements for our targeted users, we conducted a user study with interviews and surveys to identify user profiling and personas for the deaf and hearing communities. As a result, the findings from the user studies helped to establish the user requirements in order to inform the design and development of DHearT.
