TIAMULIN DIGESTIVE TRACT CONCENTRATIONS FOLLOWING TREATMENT INPIGS VIA FEED OR WATER

Tiamulin is a valuable antimicrobial for the control of Brachyspira sp. infections in pigs. Its minimum inhibitory concentrations ranged between 0.125 and 2 |ig/ml for 90% of Brachyspira hyodysenteriae and pilosicoli isolates tested in various studies(2-3-4-7-9). Nevertheless emergence of resistant strains has been reported (5-6), highlighting importance of rational use of this compound. Breakpoint concentration of 2 |ig/ml has been recommended for tiamulin against Brachyspira sp (8).
