In the year 2000, fixation of sows during pregnancy and lactation was prohibited in Norway. Thus, all sows are held in groups resulting in new challenges in reproductive management. A positive effect of group-housed sows is an apparent reduction in the frequency of anoestrus sows. Thus, repeat breeding and sows not in pig at expected time for farrowing are the main reproductive problems in Norway (1). Examination of the sexual organs from sows representative for the specific herd problem is essential to implement corrective actions at the herd level.
