In LDPE and EVA the tubular filler halloysite can be dispersed at a nanometer level and can act as a flame retardant; but its effectiveness is lower compared to organoclays. A combination of organoclay and halloysite improves the char quality resulting in improved FR properties. Cable insulations based on aluminium trihydrate and zinc borate can form stable ceramics which are of interest to substitute mica tapes traditionally used for security cables. But the ceramic is highly conductive at high temperatures resulting in failure to pass the German norm for security cable qualification.
