During the implementation of several research projects on the suitability of the diatomaceous materials of Greece in applications in the construction industry , a significant deposit with peculiar mineralogical composition was located in Thessaly , Central Greece. This diatomaceous material was successfully tried as industrial absorbent, light weight aggregate (LWA) and light weight insulation bricks. The trials conducted in laboratory and semi-industrial scale in Greece, Belgium, France and the USA.
