Pentachlorophenol (PCP) was widely used as a pesticide, herbicide, and disinfectant, which led to severe PCP contamination problems [1]. It has been recognized as a priority pollutant because of its toxicity and persistence in the environment [2]. Previous studies have focused on the adsorption, degradation, remediation, and ecotoxicity of PCP in the environment [3–7], however, little information is available on the distribution of PCP residues in soils. In this study, we investigated the dynamics of ~(14)C-PCP residues distribution in different soil organic matter (SOM) fractions of five soils. The findings would be helpful to better evaluate the fate and assess the potential ecological risk of PCP in soil.
