LITHIUM RESOURCES ARE THEY ADEQUATE?

The writer has produced two papers on lithium resources in response to two publications by Meridian International Research (Tahil 2007 & 2008) which claimed that reserves are inadequate to meet potential demands for lithium-ion batteries in motor vehicles. The writer's first report (Evans 2008) has been published in Industrial Minerals but the second had a more restricted distribution and is largely repeated here. It is followed by an update, slightly revises the earlier reserve estimate and includes an estimate of current production capacity and demand. The complexity of the issue of adequacy is discussed.
