This paper presents the general framework of BEST3D-ISGO - a Bay/Estuary Hydrodynamics and Sediment/Contaminant Transport Model for 3D Integrated Surface, Groundwater and Overland Regimes. A systematic and consistent mathematical formulation of the governing equations, the boundary conditions for each regime, as well as the coupling conditions representing the interactions on the interface between the three domains are presented. The numerical methods pertaining to the integrated model, including the moving grid algorithm, the finite element method, and the solution procedures are briefly introduced. A hypothetical example is used to demonstrate the model performance. The preliminary results from the application of the BEST3D-ISGO model to the Loxahatchee River in Florida are also presented.
