Established in 1941, Fort Campbell is an active Army Forces Command installation located in Christian and Trigg Counties in southwestern Kentucky and Montgomery and Stewart Counties in north-central Tennessee. Campbell Army Airfield (CAAF), the U.S. Army’s largest airfield, is located on approximately 2,000 acres in the northeastern corner of Fort Campbell, north of the Main Cantonment Area, within the commonwealth of Kentucky. Light non-aqueous phase liquid (LNAPL) was first detected at CAAF in 1982, likely due to fuel spills and possible pipeline leaks. Previous free-product recovery operations, conducted as interim remedial measures, have been successful in removing approximately 180,000 equivalent gallons of LNAPL which constitutes most of the remaining mobile product. A corrective measures study (CMS) was conducted to evaluate potential remedial measures and select an appropriate measure for addressing the remaining residual LNAPL
