On the railways of Russia carrying out diagnostics of isolation of a contact network ultrasonic defectoscope (UD-8) has received big distribution which possesses the advantage, consisting in remote estimations of a condition of isolation on the basis of registration of acoustic radiation both partial discharges (PD) and superficial partial discharges (SPD). The device allows carrying out the express train - analysis of a condition of garlands of isolators under a working voltage, that undoubtedly it is very important at carrying out of diagnostics. Alongside with advantages UD-8 possesses also a number of essential lacks. Those are: 1) the high level of the extraneous noise accepted by the device and 2) revealing of normal garlands as faulty, on which arises SPD because of pollution of isolators. In this connection we to the period with 2003 for 2007 on the East - Siberian railway (ESR) and in high-voltage laboratory of Irkutsk State Transport University carry out researches of characteristics of electromagnetic and acoustic radiation of the PD arising in garlands pendant porcelain isolators. As a result of researches parameters PD are determined: duration, a spectrum and frequency of following of pulses PD, energy level characteristics and the emitting power of PD. The received results have allowed establishing diagnostic attributes of failure of garlands of porcelain isolators.
