Surface treatment with natural resin (shellac resin) onto bamboo fibers was conducted to improve the interfacial adhesion in Poly(butylene succinate) (PBS) composites reinforced with Madake and Mousouchiku bamboo fibers. Influence of the surface treatment on the interfacial adhesion was investigated by evaluation of mechanical properties and fracture behavior of the composites. The surface treatment improved tensile strength of the composites. The optimum surface treatment condition to achieve good interfacial adhesion was discussed.
