The Transposition of Directive 2002/49/EC into Latvian national legislation illustrated by the Noise Mapping Riga Project

Latvia counted amongst the first Member States to transpose "European Commission Directive 2002/49/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 25 June 2002 relating to the assessment and management of environmental noise" into national legislation. This national transposition sets the framework for the currently ongoing strategic noise mapping projects, targeting both a major agglomeration (the capital of Latvia: Riga) and major interurban roads. The text of the legal transposition is explained and some aspects are illustrated using examples from the ongoing Noise Mapping Riga project.
