The Po Valley is characterized by a large number of exceedances ofair quality standards for ozone and PM10, as well as very strong airpollution episodes. To assist local authorities in air quality evalu-ation and management, the Emilia Romagna Environmental Agency(A RPA) has implemented an operational Air Quality forecast sys-tem, called NINFA (Northern Italy Network to Forecast Aerosolpollution). NINFA has been run over 1 year, simulating air pollutionover Northern Italy for the period April 2003–March 2004.
