A FRAMEWORK INCLUDING QUESTIONS REQUIRED TO DETERMINE IT BENEFITS; A RE-ANALYSIS USING SYSTEMS ENGINEERING APPROACH

Previous research has determined that it is better for a company to do systems engineering analysis and studies prior to building or acquiring the infrastructure for Management Information Systems in order to make sure that the appropriate requirements for the infrastructure are identified before investing money in the project. Moreover, the potential that exists in the infrastructure will probably never be fully realized without building or acquiring an IS/IT system that exactly fits the size and shape of the organization, e.g. a system rally integrated with existing systems and exactly fitting within the whole system (system of systems). If such integration can be achieved, then the Management Information Systems will improve the organization's operations and the full strategic potential of such systems can be attained. Unfortunately this is rarely achieved. The research presented in this paper uses the "Systems Engineering Approach" to build a framework within which the "right" questions to ask are framed so that organizations can discover how they will truly benefit from Information Technology. This paper discusses that framework and how the "right" questions fit within this framework.
