The DaimlerChrysler Truck Group develops a new generation of heavy duty Diesel engines, the Heavy Duty Engine Platform for the present and future emissions requirements and for the different world markets. These engines feature a flexible, pressure-amplified Common Rail injection system. The first engine brought to market will be a 14.8 L engine for the fulfillment of the EPA 07 requirements. This engine shows high fuel efficiency by optimization of the combustion system, the use of the possibilities of the injection system and the careful tuning of the charging components. Due to the flexibility of the injection system also different criteria such as drivability, noise emission and exhaust gas aftertreatment are achieved without making compromises in fuel efficiency. The flexible, pressure-amplified Common Rail injection system with its flexible shaping of the injection process and the stability of pre and post injection is a substantial component for the competitiveness and sustainability of the new generation of heavy duty Diesel engines of the DaimlerChrysler Truck Group.
