COLOR THEORETICAL APPROACH TO OPTICAL PROPERTIES OF PRINTING PAPERS

Perceived color of an object depends on lightness, hue and saturation. However, many optical standards of the paper industry, such as opacity and print-through standards, take into account only lightness. This may be adequate for evaluating black print and white paper, but not for colored prints or papers. Unlike standard definitions of opacity and print-through, a color difference model is able to predict perceived covering ability of a sheet of paper satisfactory regardless of the color of the paper and the print.
