COLOUR REPRODUCTION MEASUREMENT AND REFERENCE WHITE CHROMATICITY VALUE DEFINITION FOR COLOUR TV RECEIVER

A grade of the picture definition and colour reproduction is the most important factors in determination of the picture quality of colour TV receiver. Checking chromaticity values along the Planckian locus comprehensively is to find out the ideal chromaticity value of reference white for colour TV receiver. Adjusting the chromaticity value of reference white following different coordinates along Planckian Locus and along the isotherms, the authors of this paper tested the colour reproduction of colour TVs and calculated the colour differences by using a PR1980B spectroradiometer and a Munseil colour atlas, authors also evaluated the colour reproduction of television sets and affirmed the optimum range of reference white chromaticity value. The results of both colour reproduction measurement and subjective grading experiment has proven that the colour TV receivers of reference white chromaticity within this ideal region can present the daylight vision memory colours. Thus.with such receivers, the public can have lifelike visual enjoyment .Receivers with reference white chromaticity values according to that ideal value may be manufactured without additional cost. Therefore, the result of our work is not only advanced technologically, but also can be applied in defining the reference white chromaticity of colour monitors used in digital image systems.
