An extensive test program was conducted to quantify the effects of thermal damage on the strength properties and fatigue life of 7050-T7451 aluminium alloy. The test program also explored the use of hardness testing as a means to estimate room temperature residual strength properties and fatigue life after thermal damage. The data gathered from the various tests showed that it is possible to use hardness testing at ambient temperature to estimate the residual strength and fatigue life of 7050-T7451 aluminium alloy after thermal damage has occurred.
