Introduction Semiconductor diode lasers that are both spatially and spectrally bright are ideal sources for fiber laser pumping and other applications. Not only should these sources exhibit good spatial beam quality, the lasing spectrum should also be narrow and stable throughout the range of operation. Effects of drive current levels and coolant temperature should be minimized for the highest efficiency.
