KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT: ISSUES FOR AFRICA'SLIBRARY AND INFORMATION PROFESSIONALS

摘要

Based on documentary and library research, this paper highlights some of the issues that are necessary in creating a conducive environment for addressing and tackling knowledge management issues in Africa. The paper argues the need for African library and information professionals who are entrusted with handing information and knowledge to understand all the issues and aspects that surround KM. In this way they can better articulate the way forward for managing knowledge for the betterment of their professional practices and communities. The issues in this paper include knowledge as key to national competitiveness, the need to understand knowledge management, the role of libraries in knowledge management, the need to include indigenous knowledge, knowledge management education, and possible ways forward.
