ECOMETABOLOMICS OF ROOT EXUDATES IN GERMAN GRASSLAND COMMUNITIES

Rhizosphere: the belowground black-box. The plant root is embedded in a multiple organism network: the rhizosphere. For reactions towards different abiotic stresses [1, 2] or to interact with the microbial soil communities and neighboring plants [37], roots release metabolites called exudates. Until now, there is little known about these chemicals in natural habitats. Therefore, we applied non-targeted metabolomics combined with ecology to analyze exudate patterns in natural grassland communities.
