The width of permanent magnet is very criticalparameter for power density and torque characteristics of permanent magnet motor. In this paper, the rotor design methodology for interior permanent magnet motor (IPMSM) considering pole arc ratio and salient pole ratio of PM and duct structure is proposed in order to improve the characteristics such as average torque, torque ripple, cogging torque and back emf waveform. Especially, demagnetization effect due to duct structure is analyzed by finite element method.
