Asymmetric amplifications in heterogeneous amino acid catalyses have recently attracted much attention, due to their relevance in the evolution of homochirality in biological systems. Intensive investigations by Blackmond and Hayashi traced back this phenomenon to the ternary phase behaviour of non-enantiopure (scalemic) mixtures of amino acids under solid-solution conditions.
