Differences in Mitral Valve Annular Function Under Full and Partial Ring Annuloplasty

Long term outcomes of mitral valve repairs are enhanced when using an annuloplasty device. A novel composite ring (Figure 1) with a semi-rigid posterior and a flexible anterior allows anterior folding of the mitral valve annulus while providing aggressive posterior remodeling (full ring). A posterior semi-rigid ring supports only the muscular region of the annulus (trigone to trigone) without a physical attachment to the anterior annulus (partial ring). We investigated mitral valve annular function when converting a full ring to a partial ring.
