Innovative underground works at Socorridos, Madeira Island, Portugal

摘要

The paper describes the UPHS innovative Socorridos hydroelectric scheme that is a part of a multipurpose scheme at Madeira Island. The upper and down reservoirs are totally underground as well as the pumping station. The underground structures were built in very heterogeneous volcanic rocks which caused very complex problems. The described methodology for rock mass characterization is described as well as monitored results obtained.
