A novel type of miniaturized liquid-liquid chromatography (LLC) system with droplet-array stationary phase was developed on a microfluidic chip. The droplet-trapping technique was employed to produce two arrays of stationary phase droplets in the picoliter range on both sidewalls of the microchannel. Mobile phase was driven by gravity with a linear velocity range of 100-1000μm/s. A fluorescent dye, Eosin Y, was used as model sample to demonstrate the possibility of the system in achieving chromatography separation.
