Integrating school transport and public transport - Trambus' scholastic special service

The specific aim of this presentation is to analyze the ways by which Trambus delivers, on behalf of the Rome's Municipality, the scholastic special service, service reserved to particular categories of Roman students. In particular the analytical focus will be placed at describing the different organizational structures, the different typologies, combinations, and interactions of productive factors utilized by Trambus S.p.A in order to carry out such special production maintaining, in the meanwhile, its integrity in focusing on its core business. In order to deliver the scholastic special service Trambus has founded an internal operative unit named "special productions". The scholastic service may be divided as fallowing: 1) Annually planned scholastic service for normally abled and nomadic communities; 2) Free of charge scholastic service for disabled (who have obtained permission by the Rome's Municipality); 3) On-call special service for disabled. With regard to the "special production" organizational structure, Trambus has adopted the fallowing model: the Company actuates the strategic planning such as routes of services, number of passengers, quality of service supervising, while the special production's implementation is carried out in outsourcing by an external supplier, identified through a public call for tender procedure.
