In the present investigation, influence of temperature on the microstructure of Al-3Ti-0.15C master alloy has been investigated. It is observed that the size, surface characteristics and distribution of TiC particles, as well as the morphology and size of TiAl_3 particles are related to melting temperature. The Al-3Ti-0.15C master alloy synthesized at 1200°C and 60 minutes of holding time, shown superior grain refining action as compared when the same has been synthesized at 850°C and 60 minutes of holding time. This is attributed to the favourable surface characteristics, size and distribution of TiC particles synthesized at 1200°C. Conclusions drawn out of this investigation are present in detailed text.
