Identifying Pregnancy Biomarkers of Dairy Cows using MALDI-MS

This is the first work that reports minimal sample preparation analysis of follicular fluid to identify biomarkers for pregnancy and has proven to be a simple and accurate strategy. The overall amount of time dedicated to all analytical steps altogether (sample preparation, instrumental analysis and data interpretation) takes well less than an hour, compared to classical chromatographic approaches. This makes the presented strategy a very straightforward and viable alternative for directly analysis from biological samples, with minimum sample preparation steps. Finally, our findings can be especially interesting for livestock to measure the fertility of cattle, which may eventually help to assess both, the quality of the meat as milk, products widely marketed and consumed in Brazil.
