Combining FAIMS with mass spectrometry enables quantification of 25-OH D_3 by removing biological, isomeric interference of epimer, avoiding a lengthy LC separation step for high throughput clinical analyses. Furthermore, a miniaturised UltraFAIMS device is particularly well-suited to the timescales of rapid sample introduction because the low ion residence time enables a faster separation compared to larger FAIMS devices. Combining UltraFAIMS-MS with rapid, online solid phase extraction is an exciting prospect for high-throughput vitamin D analysis in the clinical environment.
