The in vitro model system showed an increase in branched chain amino acids for Jurkat cells grown in a high glucose environment compared to the normal glucose (5 mM) cell medium. This finding is consistent with previous work in literature. Other metabolites such as choline and AMP showed a decrease in the high glucose environment. Many endogenous lipid classes increased in peak area for the 24 and 96 hour time points after being introduced to a high glucose environment. LPC and PS lipids exhibited the largest fold change difference in the high glucose vs. normal glucose environment at 24 and 96 hour time points. T1D patient T cell metabolites and lipids separated from the controls in PCA component space and HCA branching.
