Dental plaque meta-omics for diagnosis of oral and systemic disease

We present here a framework for evaluating the oral microbiotic proteome and metabolome as tools for the investigation of both oral and whole body systemic disease states. Future work will include optimization of the combined sample extraction method and an automated, high-throughput interface for the peptide identication and species group steps to scale these methods for large numbers of clinically-relevant samples. This will be further extended to integrate with electronic medical records, with the eventual goal of improving the earliest clinical detection of disease.
