摘要

Termites are considered the smallest and most efficient bioreactor in the world. The termite's digestome can degrade up to 90% of the lignocellulosic biomass ingested (Katsumata et al., 2007) using a repertoire of endogenous and symbiotic degrading enzymes, accessory proteins, and putative ligninases. Such efficient decomposer can be considered as a model to help overcoming challenges for development of biotechnological routes for lignified plant biomass conversion into feedstock sugars, which is nowadays one main focus in biofuel research field.
