(1) S1 compounds with DBEs below 8 are easily removed by the HDS process. (2) Similar trend was observed for different catalysts. (3) Compounds of masses more than 600 Da are susceptible to desulfurization. (4) Thiophenes of DBEs 9, 10 and 11 are found to be most recalcitrant. (5) DBEs 6, 7 and 8 are verified to be benzothiophenes and naphthenobenzothiophenes whereas DBEs 9, 10 and 11 are found to be dibenzothiophenes and naphthenodibenzothiophenes by liquid chromatographic separation on a beta-cyclodextrin phase.
