SPME is easily adaptable to ASAP methodology. higher sheath gas flow rate does not significantly affect either peak area or peak reproducibility, but impacts the noise level. the APCI probe temperature can be programmed to effectively desorb the analytes from SPME fibers. feasibility of quantitative operation of SPME ASAP was demonstrated by obtaining good quality calibration curves for both types of SPME fibers. the limit of detection (LOD) for majority of investigated analytes was < 0.5 ng/mL with SPME ASAP. The same analytes run just on an ASAP probe gave LODs approximately 0.5 (mu)g/mL (1000x higher).
