摘要

An atmospheric-pressure glow discharge (APGD) has recently been developed and shown to be proficient at desorption-ionization for the direct mass-spectrometric analysis of solid, liquid, and gaseous compounds. This ambient ionization source offers several advantages including structural and molecular information, minimal sample preparation, high sensitivity, high-throughput analysis, design simplicity, and low operating costs. In addition, a novel Faraday-strip array detector, termed the focal plane camera (FPC), has been coupled to a Mattauch-Herzog mass spectrograph (MHMS) for the simultaneous detection of a range of mass-to-charge values. This instrument offers improved duty cycle, reduction of correlated noise and freedom from spectral skew. With these advantages, sensitivity, isotope ratio data, and transient analyses are all improved over scan/time based mass spectrometers.
