Intracellular signal transduction mediated by receptor protein tyrosine kinases, such as the EGF receptor, is initiated by time-ordered tyrosine phosphorylation of recruited adaptors and other signaling molecules (e.g. kinases and phoshophatases). However, when this precise control breaks down, cancer may be the consequence.
