Polishing Your Pictures: Bringing Consistency and Meaning to Your Visuals

In our technical documentation, online help, and interface designs, our pictures always seem to play second fiddle to our words. We find pictures and diagrams too cumbersome to illustrate, and we can never seem to make them attractive enough, meaningful enough, and consistent enough in our information. Fortunately, there are ways to overcome these visual challenges, and most of them stem from our basic rules of- ironically enough - technical writing theory and practice.
