What Goes Around Comes Around: 9+ Career-Builder STC Projects

Much career advice contains anecdotes from the presenter's life. Too often, the audience cannot duplicate these experiences, i.e., the audience does not have the same training, situation, and mentoring, nor can situations be re-created with identical outcomes. To bridge this gap, I offer 9 projects to adapt to individual skills, interests, and experience. Each project meets the following: 1) benefits the technical communicator; 2) benefits others; 3) adds to resume/portfolio; 4) increases networking; 5) identifies skill level (beginning, intermediate, advanced); 6) defines "homework" required for completion; 7) explains procedures; 8) has a duration of 1—4 months to accommodate full-time employment and family/social events. Some projects lead to others, thus creating synergism in career-building.
