This paper suggests computational approach to designing single-mode elliptical applicators for thermal processing of cylindrical samples of relatively small diameters. We show that stable and efficient excitation of TM{sub}(mn) modes of elliptical waveguides can be achieved by appropriate placing of two coaxial probes extended in the longitudinal direction of the cavity and choosing the dimensions of the cavity. It is demonstrated that with the proposed excitation the elliptical structures with even TM{sub}01, TM{sub}11, and TM{sub}21 modes are capable of operating in a single-mode regime and generating satisfactory uniformity of the dissipated power within the cylindrical samples.
