Battery capacity is an important factor affecting the cruise range of an electric vehicle. It is especially true for that of pure electric vehicles like electric scooters or electric bikes. Besides increasing the design capacity of each cell, improving the charging effect to obtain best utilization of cell capacity is another solution to have more cruise range. The latter method is expected to have better return with less capital cost and volume/weight cost. In this paper, we propose a novel scheme of charging control by adjusting the charging pace among cells to obtain uniform and full capacity on each cell. In a real case application for electric bike battery, recorded data on field test show that over 15% of charge capacity improvement is possible.
