INCREASING THE SHARE OF PHOTOVOLTAICS - IS IT AN OBSTACLE OR IMMINENT FOR A COMPETITIVE EUROPEAN ELECTRICITY MARKET?

Photovoltaics is one of the fastest growing industries world-wide, but critics claim that this is only due to massive state subsidies and they call for a truly liberalised market and the removal of support mechanisms for Photovoltaics. Is this a threat or a precondition for the development of Photovoltaics? This paper analyses economic frame conditions and mentions market distortions which are present in the energy and electricity markets. To make this analysis a non-linear model is used, which is capable of showing the effects on the generation portfolio through simultaneous changes in financial markets and technological development.
