摘要

Photovoltaics (PV) is an all-rounder in building construction as the silicon cells can do much more than the conversion of solar radiation into electrical power. The outer surface of a building as the interface between the interior and the environment is decisive regarding important characteristics of the building like esthetics, interior climate, thermal insulation, energy consumption, noise protection as well as durability to weather conditions. The expression "multifunctional photovoltaic facade" has been introduced by ISET in 1993 for the multiple use of the physical attributes of a PV-surface of a building. Today the idea is becoming common practice. Photovoltaic systems are extremely well scalable, which is an important property of this technology. It is demonstrated that for each purpose specific solutions can be developed that are economically favorable. The article also gives examples of an ambitious photovoltaic integration into different types of buildings.
