AN INNOVATIVE FLAT ROOF BASED SOLAR TRACKING SYSTEM LIGHTTRACK

With the growing demand of large grid-connected PV systems, the need to maximize yields and reduce costs is inevitable. Solar tracking systems satisfy these needs, but are mainly ground based structures, whereas a lot of square meters are necessary for every kWp output. These systems have to compete against every other form using our valuable landscape and soil. Therefore Oskomera Solar Power Solutions developed a new flat roof based solar tracking system called LIGHTTRACK. Flat roofs are abundant and are a perfect solution for implementing large PV systems, especially in Western Europe where every square meter is valuable. LIGHTTRACK is a one-axis structure and has a yield which reaches up to 17.8% per year compared to stationary systems. Unique in his kind, this solar tracking system has his rotating axis in the north-south direction. The PV modules rotate from east to west, of course regarding 'backtracking'. This innovative new direction of rotating, gains efficiency in the conversion DC to AC. Inverters won't be affected by high peaks and slow exposure, but will be turned on earlier and peaks will be less. The ground cover ratio of LIGHTTRACK is equal to stationary systems. For 1 MWp, only 17.500 m~2 is needed. Next to that, no additional roof-transits are necessary since it is a ballasted system. Therefore, LIGHTTRACK is very flexible and because the weight is comparable to stationary systems, the applicability will be equal to stationary systems.
