EUROPEAN AWARD 'BUILDING-INTEGRATED SOLAR TECHNOLOGY 2008'

In the context of energy-efficient building the use of solar energy in and at buildings is a central topic. Solar thermal and photovoltaic systems open a multiplicity of application possibilities and offer qualitatively high-quality products. To increase acceptance and to foster awareness of this topic, the Bavarian Association for the Promotion of Solar Energy has organized the competition "Building-Integrated Solar Technology 2008". 40 projects were entered, 38 projects from 8 countries were assessed by the jury. The jury - Chairman: Prof. Thomas Herzog - awarded two main prizes, three commendations and five citations. The competition entries show the huge potential of coherent integrated solar technology as a part of advanced architectural and energy technical building concepts. However, architects and engineers consider the results from different viewpoints. It is demonstrated that architects and engineers together can find best solutions, which do not only comprise photovoltaics, but a wide range of renewable technologies.
