A highly efficient 10 cm × 10 cm sub-module of dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) was successfully fabricated using Black dye. This sub-module has a current-collecting structure with Ag grids. The energy conversion efficiency based on an active area and an aperture area were 9.4% (η_(ac) = 9.4%, Jsc = 20.5 mA/cm~2, Voc = 0.68 V, ff = 0.67) and 8.7%, respectively. Environmental and endurance test methods for amorphous Si solar cell modules, JIS C-8938, corresponding to IEC norm 68-2, was applied to the stability test. This test included a dry heat cycle test (-40°C to 90°C, 200 cycles), a heat-humidity cycle test (-40°C to 90°C, 85% humidity, 10 cycles) and a light soaking test (255 W/m~2 (300 nm - 700 nm), 500 hrs). The stability of DSC was much dependent on the species of electrolyte solvent, suggesting the sealing is very important for the long-term stability of DSC. In conclusion, Methoxypropionitrile (MPN) solvent of electrolyte showed a promising feature in terms of the long-term stability of DSC for commercialization.
