Door Safety Function for Elevators Using Video Analysis

We have developed a camera-based door sensor for elevators that detects people approaching an elevator to prevent a collision between a passenger and the closing door. The new sensor has two advantages over conventional photoelectric sensors: wider detection area and precise motion detection. It can detect the difference between a person approaching the elevator car and passing over the door at entrance area. We have implemented the algorithm on an embedded system and run it in real time.
