Effect of 2011 Van Earthquake on the Elevators

摘要

Study of safety rules for the construction and installations of elevators subject to seismic conditions is an important research interests for elevator engineers. As the elevator possesses the counterweight, there are obviously more countermeasures to apply in order to make it safer in seismic regions and it becomes more costly. In low-rise buildings, hydraulic elevator serves better in seismic regions in terms of resistance to shakes, low cost and ease of rescue. This paper includes observations of a three-day investigation of elevators in Van earthquake, collecting details of buildings, type of elevators and form of damages.
