Liftinstituut as Accredited Elevator/Escalator Certification Organisation (AECO): What are the Differences and Similarities between Being a Notified Body or an AECO?
Elevator technology is becoming more and more advancing technology. To stimulate the deployment of new technologies, North America decided to develop the so-called Performance Based Code (PBC) for Elevator Safety. In March 2009, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) appointed three AECO's including Liftinstituut. AECO's are organizations, licensed to certify according to the new PBC. Of these AECO's, Liftinstituut is the only one that specializes in lift (elevator) and escalator safety not only for Europe but now also in North America. Because we provide the European certification for leading international manufacturers of elevators and escalators, we have broad experience with this new approach to regulation and certification in North America. What are the differences and similarities in approaching standards and codes, authorities, manufacturers, cultures, interpretations etc. between being a Notified Body or an AECO.
